Default Is it normal for the shifter to have a slight amount of 'play' while in gear

My **** moves freely maybe 1/4" radius while in gear, and also makes a visual little jerk when I acceleration on/off. I have a UUC shifter by the way.

Default Yes, stock S4 shifter has more play than other cars. With a short-shifter the play is greatly,

reduced
