I found this thread from another forum.
I have a 3.2 FSI CALB engine 2009 Q5, automatic transmission. SAME thing.
As I brake to a stop, the engine almost violently dips to a stall but doesn’t stall.
Not sure why this thread died-but it didn’t seem solved and seems like many others are experiencing this—automatic trans AND manual trans.
Anyone have some previous experience with this behavior?

On a different thread about this issue, someone tried a variety of fixes to remedy this “almost stall” when braking to a stop. He states that what FINALLY fixed this condition was replacing the coolant temperature sensor.
Anyone else verify this or have thoughts about it?
