Default Odd, feel like a dumbass question, Is it possible...

to have accidentaly installed front springs in the rear, and rear springs in the front?

I just had H&R street coilovers put on the car by a local shop. The spring currently in the front appears to have a larger OD than the spring in the rear. My right rear is sqeaking pretty bad at very low speeds (parking lots/driveway) I may be being paranoid, but the front also seems to bounce a bit more? I'd just like to know if it's even POSSIBLE for a shop to have screwed up like this....

Might there even be a number printed ON the springs to indicate front vs. rear? That I could check pretty simply...

Default Probably possible but the rear springs wouldn't properly seat...

on the front's upper spring perch. I think the front springs are supposed to have a larger OD than the rears.

Default

most springs I've seen have an F or R on the spring itself (front/rear)

Default the fronts on the S are larger coils than the rear. Sounds like they are on right.

plus mounting them the opposite way is not possible since the front and rear have differnt attachment points.

Default As for the shocks, I agree, different mounting points (can't get them wrong)

but could you put the wrong spring on the wrong shock? (front spring on a rear shock)

I'm feeling a little better.....but I'd love some way to check for sure.

Default I doubt it. I have a set of S4 springs and shocks...

sitting here in my office. So I experimented a bit and it seems that it isn't possible to put the rear springs on the front shocks and vice versa. The springs will not fit the perches on the wrong shocks.

Default good, seems my car paranoia is for not! The squeak is driving me nuts though....

I also just checked my literature (happens to also be here in my office) and it give's markings for both springs. Any ideas on what would be causing a low speed squeak? bushing? spring seat?......should I just go to town with some WD-40.....

Default Yes, the squeaks are damn annoying. Been there before...

Try to spray some lubricant on the bushings. If that doesn't help, make sure all the bolts on the shocks are tightened. I have a matallic clunk in my rear suspension to deal with now.

Default Man, what a disaster that would have been before SCR!

Boris sent me an email saying Brian with an S4 would be there. Well, I'll see you there. I have a 1.8tqm. Do you know anyone going to SCR from the Chatfield reservoir area?
