Default My 6,500 0w40 report showed...

fuel <1% and viscosity at 13.3. Oxidation and NOX were 41-40%, and iron content was 49 (still normal).

Default TAN

TAN = Total Acid number. It is the opposite of TBN = Total Base Number.

TBN "measures the alkaline reserve remaining in crankcase lubricants to neutralize acidic byproducts of combustion." This number starts at a certain level and drops as the oil gets older. New AMSOIL Series 2000 0w-30 has a TBN of about 11.

TAN is usually for non-crankcase lubricants and increases as the oil gets older. Perhaps they did the wrong analysis on your oil.

"TAN is not generally associated with engine crankcase lubricants, unless they are severely contaminated."

BTW what oil were you using before?

Ok. I think they use some Molybdenum, but perhaps LCP can comment from his analysis.

Default I have to call this WIX company on Monday, I'm not sure...

they knew exactly what I was looking for. Again, only used this company because the guy at the parts store where I bought the AMSOIL said a lot of their customers use them...i wonder if I needed to request some specific tests...they did ask me specifically if I was sending in oil from an automobile engine...they also asked me which make and model and which oil type I was using and if it was a turbo or not....
