Default oil leak, any ideas where could it be coming from?

I dropped the liner and found the following oil residue...

Anyone with the same problem? what was the solution and where is the oil leak coming from? Is this some major repair? TIA!

I guess its time to call for service to have it checked...<sigh> one leak after another........

Default The samething happened to me...

As a matter of fact, my car is at the dealer right now waiting for the part to come in, hopefully it'll be done by middle of next week. The service advisor told me that it was leaking from the front crank seal. He showed me a pic of it, I believe they have to take the crank out in order to replace it. He said it was about a 6-8 hrs job. Hope this helps. BTW, where else have you oil leaked from?

Default Don't have the part # but...

I wish I have the service cd so I can point out which one it was. Might swing by the dealer today, if I can get the part # then I'll let you know. But they don't stock this part, it takes a couple of days to get according to my dealer. What you can do (what I did) is to call the part dept and ask them if they have the crank seal in stock, tell them the one that leaks the most and he/she'll know what you're talking about. That worked with mine, I told him that and he knew exactly which part it was. Good luck!

Default Thats not oil. Nothing to worry about ...

This is grease that Audi puts on some parts of the engine at the factory. When the engine gets hot, it melts and collects on that plastic unberbody cover. At least thats what I was told by 2 different Audi Techs and thats what it was on my car. Are you sure its oil? Make sure you check it, you probably dont have to worry about it.
