Default Oil Leak - Main Seal, Crankshaft Seal?

2000 S4 with 40,000 miles. Already had a crankshaft seal replaced at 11,000 miles. Starting to leak again. Seems to be leaking from where the engine and transmission come together. Are other S4 owners experiencing this problem? Thanks.

Default Yes, I've been plagued by leaks too... now I'm getting a new block.

you guys ought to compare notes on build dates etc to see if there was a problem in the factory...

Default I had that problem. service guy said it was the seal for the center differential

they replaced it and said it was a common problem after i spent a half hour trying to convince them i actually had a leak. i told them i had oil on cardboard that was under my car, and only after that did they miraculously find the leak. they tried to blame it on condensation. what a joke.

Build date means nothing, short block serial number (*APB 024013*) is probably the key.

Default Newbie here -- 3200 miles on my 2001 S4, already leaking oil ;-(

Oil appears to be coming out of the crankshaft seal, dealer says ok to drive unless "blue smoke is seen", appointment in 20 days.

Drips about 1/3 cup right after parking, then stops. Having looked at past oil leak threads here at AW, I am geting apprehensive.

Oh, well, all is forgiven as soon as I hit my first 4500 rpm of the day ;-). Love this car !!
