Oil level is fine - Low Oil Light Comes On!!!!
Hey folks,
I really need your help! I am sure there is already a thread on this but could not find it. I have a 2001 S4 Avant. While driving, the car will periodically flash the low oil level light! The oil level is fine! It happens most of the time I am driving up Little Cottonwood Canyon up to our UT Ski Resorts....Any ideas?? Thanks!

How are you checking the oil level? If you pull the dipstick soon after driving around you are not going to get an accurate reading.
The most likely cause is that you are relatively low on oil but still above the level that will cause the oil level warning. When you go up hill, around curves, or even accelerate hard, the oil will "shift" accordingly and this can cause the sensor to register a low-oil condition. Once the oil settles the warning should clear - I believe this warning can clear without having to turn the motor off, but I'm not 100% on that.

It could be something as simple as the level sensor going/gone bad. Hopefully nothing more than that.

Only other time I've seen this where it wasn't the sensor was oil sludge. usually in the a4 4 cylider though. 2.7 isn't known for this issue.

OK so I was reading the sensor wrong...Apparently it is the oil pressure light and not the oil level sensor. I am going to the dealer tomorrow to get an 'oil pressure sender'. I have found on some other threads this to be successful. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

This is ironic, I'm having what appears to be the same exact issue. Let me/us know how you make out. I was thinking about ordering the pressure and level sensor from ECStuning. I'm certain my oil level is correct. It happens to me after at least a 10 minute warm up and then when the car is on a hill that seems to set off the warning.
