Finally got around to changing out the engine, transmission and rear-diff oil over the long weekend. After much STFA'ing, I decided to go with Motul Gear 300 75w90 in both the trans and rear diff. I've been running AMSOIL 5w40 European Formula in the engine since the last drain interval and refilled with the same. I should have a UOA back in a few weeks just to see how it is holding up in the engine.
Fortunately the whole ordeal only took a few hours to do, and Mike even learned a few very valuable lessons of 1) waiting till the car cools down completely to pull out the coolant temp sensor or at least loosen the cap on the coolant resevoir 2) being faster at backing up to avoid an old faithful sized fountain of hot coolant rushing towards your face and arms.
So after a hundred or so miles on the new oil, the car is definitely much smoother when shifting now versus before. It's not a huge difference but for someone who drives it daily, I can easily tell the difference. Of course the real test will be come the winter to see how it does in the cold as the stock oil is generally accepted as being great in cold weather for that weight of oil.
Lastly Mike was able to tweak my MTM chip a bit more and now the car feels much more awake. I hope to run a few FATS logs sometime within the next few weeks just to do a comparison to see how much of a difference it has made.
Thanks again Mike for your help and making sure I didn't do anything stupid. Shockingly I think I came away with just a very, very oil & coolant soaked shirt. Quote of the day - "My car is like a hot b!tch, she's a P.I.T.A, and you sometimes can't stand her but at the end of the day, you put up with her - just because she's so damn hot."
