Ok, 2nd gear seems hosed....I got a track day coming up - am I silly to try to give it a go?

Default Ok, 2nd gear seems hosed....I got a track day coming up - am I silly to try to give it a go?

At the end of Sept, I have a 2 day track even at Mt Tremblant with NEQ/NAAC.

I can no longer get the transmission into 2nd when shifting from 1st, but I can get into 2nd when downshifting (with rev-matching) from 3rd; albeit with allot of effort to get out of 2nd again.

I had consulted with NoahD, who had been to that track, to determine if I really need 2nd gear.

So, I can get to work 1st gear to 6000rpms, shift to 3rd, wait for ~2000rpms....for now.

It's a ~450 mile journey to Mont Tremblant, 2 days of tracking, and ~450 home....unless I stop in Montreal for a day.

So, it's inevitable that Stasis will be supplying my rebuild (wife has already been warned).....but I am still hoping to put this off until the 1st week of Jan, when I go on a vacation.

Crazy plan? I have a short 10mile daily commute, so it's pretty easy to manage with no 2nd, just annoying.

Drool...new tranny

Should I do the LSD? Is it worth it?

Is it just a LSD from a 944 gt as the pics in the old installation guide may lead you to believe?

Default I would do the stasis rebuild now for several reasons.

1) not worth the risk of breaking down and needing a tow home
2) breaking down will kill your track weekend
3) more damage to the tranny might occur on the track = less core deposit you get back from Stasis
4) the track day seems like the perfect time to test out your new tranny (close ratio?)/ 4:1 center diff

Default i went from having to search around for 1st gear on occasion to

no 1st and 2nd gear at all at the track.

get er done.

all those updated syncros were updated for a good reason. the stockers suck and wont take the added heat of a track day.

The handicap might prove to be a good learning experience.

Default I talked to Stasis/Shine today....I'll give it a go IF there are no shavings in the gear oil.

Since Stasis is 3-4 weeks on backorders (waiting for cores)
