everything popped off when they were torqued to spec.
after a few road-side repairs i decided to tighten them quite a bit to keep the pancake pipes in and the tbb on the tb. i didn't check for damage before that, so it's hard to say when it occurred.
i haven't had problems with the updated oem tbbs so that's what i'll stick with for now.
