Default One last (I promise Skydive ;-) question on K04/16 or K04/RS6 Hybrid Trubo's

What's the chances either K16 or RS6 variants will work on:
a) Stock s/w & no other feuling mods
b) Stg 1 s/w + MBC/TCD/FPR

I realize Brian / Diego where using PEB Stg3 kit - I don't think I have the luxury of mod'ing RS4 or other Stg3 feuling seeing as I'm a Tip.

Has anyone tried it without a feuling kit ?
Opinions from those who know better ?

Is doing it this way just too risky ?

THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT SOL.N - just looking for something to carry me over until Stg3 Tip s/w & Fueling becomes available.

BTW : As much as you guys inspire me ... I'm about ready to give up the DIY path, this stuff is just too tempting (RS6 paddles are inspiring ;-) and yet out of my league. If anyone in/near CA thinks they can help me tune my car on Hybrids let me know ? (Note : I have a Tip + L10 600ft.lb Tranny)

http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/58573/img_0656.jpg</a

I broke my clutch in with K16's on stock software and stock fueling. This created problems as boost would spike and throw the car into limp mode. It was not happy.

I also ran stock fueling and higher boost for a while with decent results. With moderate boost (15-17 psi) and a 5 bar FPR, you can move just over 300 g/s and produce decent power.

However, why bother with hybrids if you don't plan on fueling? You won't gain anything up top and you'll have more lag below.

Default No TCD ? How long did you run like that ?

Note : This is just an interim solution for me !
- I don't intend to stay on this config, but it will be a while for other sources of fueling kits & s/w to appear for Tip - and yet this is probably my only opportunity to do Turbo swap.

So I figure on getting big (engine out) stuff done now and I can do the fueling stuff later.

MBC and TCD are required.

I have - and if that's all it takes I can probably hold out for a full kit for a few months more :~S

Default Niether Diego or I am running any PEB stuff. We are both running the AWE fueling kit.

There is no point in going with hybrids in your situation IMO. And most likely when and if stg 3 tip software comes available it will be tuned for k04s.

Default 2nd...

And... trust me... K04s are plenty in this car. I made over 400 chp without tuning, on pump gas, and missing about 200 mBar of boost. (At this point, I *think* this is due to strange engine load scaling, or possibly different wastegate settings present on the OC.T turbos I am running. (I'm going to call Bob today, and pray he doesn't fib.)

Default Re the O.CT turbos

Did you check them out to ensure that they are different from standard K04s? (Earlier problems were supposed to be a factory mistake) In your experience do they really come on earlier than standard K04s? At this point do you believe they are worth the extra $s?

I'm considering them and am interested in real-world experiences.

Thanks

Mike

Default O.CT turbos...

These are different than standard K04s, but they don't appear to come on any earlier than the standard ones. (That said, I'm not running O.CT code either so I don't know that this is a fair comparison.)
