Default I'm sure as soon as we have a consensus on what "best" is we'll

be able to give a definitive group opinion :-P

Suspensions involve so many variables (height adjustments, compression/rebound adjustments, what other mods on the car affect the ride quality) AND THEN you add in everyone's personal preferences given how they drive the car and how they want the car to feel..... consensus is impossible.

Good luck.

Default So, I've heard...

that many of the spring and shock combos (vs. coil overs) produce similar ride heights and rides (someone can correct me, but this is what I've heard).

Seeing my set up on stock wheels and tires might give you/soemone a good idea of the overall height change from stock to springs and shocks.

For your reference (or anyone elses).

Default coilovers, height adjustable at the very least, is the concensus. guess you just gotta read back

more.

Default ps: if they're rebound adjustable, as long as the spring rates don't bug the **** outta you,

you'll be able to customize the setup the way you like it, so you will be left
with no reason not to be perfectly happy.

Default What about sways and tower bars? ....

So what about simpler mods to start with? I just got my 2001 S4 and am not looking to do springs/shocks right now. I want to start with a rear sway bar and front/rear strut tower bars and see how it feels. I noticed that there is little talk about these simple mods. Is that because they are not worth it? Shouldn't stiffening up the car be the first place to start? Help me out.

Thanks.

you're right. go with that - if you're still not happy then get coilovers.
