Opinions on H&R standard coilovers...

I've been very happy with mine over the 5 years I've had them. As for people
raving about other similar, but different brand products, keep in mind there's a tendancy to talk up the latest products. H&R were some of the first available coilovers so as newer products come out the usual result, assuming the new product is at least as good as the old, is to talk up the new product.
I saw this happen with the short shifters. People moaned about how crappy the stock shifter was in this car. Then UUC came out with a SS and it was awesome, night and day difference versus stock. Then Tanoga released a SS that was better than the UUC. Then Toyguy made a SS that was better than Tanoga. If you actually believed the talk about these new products the current iteration of shortshifters should be a completely different driving experience. And that's a hard claim to believe.
Probably the same thing with similar suspension set ups, there may be some slight differences, but I'm skeptical that an average driver is going to find one much better than another.
I've tracked my car a few times and they performed ok. I've given rides to people and they've commented that the car doesn't ride as rough as they were expecting, and I agree. I think the H&R streets are a good compromise of performance and comfort, considering 99.9% of my miles are on public streets they suit my driving well.
