overheating

I was driving on the highway but then got lost for two hours . iwas running the ac but then decided to open my windows once i got to were i needed to go i let my car running to cooldown for about 3 to 4 minutes before i shut it off then when i came out i started my car again and then i noticed my temperature gauge more than half way up it was an 90 degree day outside and this has happened before but usually when my coolant level is low but this tme my resevor was full what could have caused this or could it just have been the really hot day????

nothing is wrong - with the engine off there is no air running past the radiator. So, basically the coolant takes on residual heat from the turbos and engine and reaches a temperature that is higher than the tolerance allowed by the car during normal operation.
You should see the coolant temp go back to normal after running the car for just a few minutes when the fan and radiator have had some time to get rid of the excess heat.
