Default Paging Mike2kS4, WindyCityS4, O.W. Kenobi and crazycrustacean with follow-up to my W8 rotor...

issue. I had the rotors turned today for the heck of it since I noticed this morning that when I scraped the scarred area pieces of the rotor started to flake off.

Below are before and after photos of the disc:

Here's a shot of both rotors after getting turned:

So, here are my questions:

1) Do you think these rotors are ok to use on my S4 if offset and measurements are the same as the stock rotor?

2) Are there any other issues I need to worry about? The technician had to turn the scarred rotor four times in order to get everything to even out.

3) This question is for "crazycrustacean"...I think that the part number for these rotors is 8D0615301J (from deciphering the rusty lettering). I was told by the Audi parts manager that it is the same in diameter and offset as the S4. You mentioned that it will likely not fit. Is this from personal experience or would you happen to have a parts catalog that says otherwise? If you do have a parts list, can you check on the above part number for me to make sure.

I guess I will know for sure when I go to take of the stock S4 rotors tomorrow. Again, thanks for all of your help yesterday. Looking forward to hearing your comments.

Default Nice try, but still NG to use...

I wouldn't use that rotor, since the defect is still visible on the friction surface and there seems to be further penetration into the metal as indicated by the side view. That being said, I do not think they will catastropically fail in street driving. I would NEVER think about using that rotor on a track.

You could use em to see if the W8 rotors work on our cars, but beyond that... having the rotor cut 4x makes it uneven with the other side in thickness/mass... and the defect is still there. You'll probably have notable vibration under braking.

See if they fit, and if so... buy another pair.

Default Are you sure those are from a W8? I know a quite a few people with W8's (m)

that have been searching for brake upgrades & etc. At first they ordered S4 replacement rotors from ECS but found out that they wouldn't fit correctly due to some offset issue. Also found out that B5 S4 Stoptech upgrades wouldn't fit correctly due to the same reason.

No X-drilled rotors have been made avail for the W8, those look like zimmermans . . . . IIRC they don't have an app for the W8. What's the deal with those rotors anyways . . .. are they drilled OEMs or Zims?

Default I don't know what to think to tell you the truth. It's definitely OEM since the Audi emblem...

is casted on to the inner ring. Thanks for your insight into the W8 brake issue. I will probably not use them and will sell it for cheap to someone who wants them.

Default Thanks for the additional advice, Mike. All the likely problems that I might encounter...

with putting this on my car have convinced me to not enven bother. Better to stick with new gear when it comes to braking equipment. Cheers!
