Default Palomar Mountain near Oceanside, CA= best road ever!!!

Hit it last night, and damn, the crotch-rocket crew has it right when they flock to this road. 7 miles, about 3000 feet in elevation change, and tons of 180+degree twisties that get your heart pumping. If you're in SoCAl...DRIVE THIS ROAD!!!

Yup. From the top, down the backside to Julian via backroads is one of the best roads in SoCal.

Default Take the Highway 76 exit. Keep going through Oceanside, past the Indian casinos...

You'll see a sign that takes you up the mountain. Traffic is dependent on when you go but for the most part it isnt' too bad.

Default Also another good drive in CA.........

if you are ever heading north on the 5 and need to get over to the 101 or vice versa....i always need to do it driving from so. cal. to the monterey bay. hit up the 198. its about 40 miles north on the 5 of the 46 and 10 miles south of king city on the 101. its about an hour of awesome driving, long straights, awesome curves. just an absolute blast to drive....

Default It used to be better...

They put down a high durability tarmac in '98 that really reduces traction. Also beware of the crotch rocket crew. I have had a couple close calls up there with a biker coming over the centerline at me. We usually had several fatalities up there every year until they stepped up enforcement.
