Whatever brands you are looking at, avoid OZ Racing.
I had a very bad experience with OZ Racing wheels. I bought OZ Racing Ultraleggeras through Tirerack.com in August 2007, by October 2007 two front wheels had significant dents. Enough to cause serious vibrations while driving at 30+ mph. OZ Racing wheels are lightweight and bend easily because they are made of a poor aluminum alloy.
I bent two front wheels on potholes in Minnetonka/Plymouth. I contacted MNDOT, Tirerack.com and OZRacing.com with photographic evidence of the bent wheels and the corresponding potholes.
No one would offer any assistance in getting new/repaired wheels.
Buyer beware, you buy OZ Racing wheels = you're on your own when they bend.

hit a big enough hole. I've got SSR Comps on the S4 - aff four of which have had to be straightened. I didn't buy BBS wheels because they're heavy and damn over priced compared to the SSRs. And by the way, the BBS wheels that came OEM on my 1992 GTi are bendy as hell.
Secondly, I now run two sets of OZ Superleggeras on that same GTi as a race car - and they've held up perfectly despite weighing only 9 lbs in a 15x7 size and hitting countless corner burms. All 8 of those wheels are perfectly straight.
Don't go bashing OZ specifically when any wheel in that category will be subject to the same problems.

Why would they cover that? The wheels may not be as strong as you wish they were, but that's not necessarily indicative of a "manufacturing or a materials defect" - it's just how the wheels are. No aftermarket wheel manufacturer I know of would help you out in a situation where you hit a pothole and bent a wheel.

nashbar, you need to be realistic if you're going to continue modding your car or you're in for a long road of disappointment and a very light wallet. You have to pay to play...one way or the other.
Hell, even on a new car, you'll probably not get a pothole incident warranteed. Many a BMW owner have tried....

both of which I have not bent. The AVUS's were 17" and the others are 18's so they are more susceptible to bends.
Just the luck of the draw on hitting potholes.
