Default For people who store their S4 during winter ....

I live in Chicago an I store my S4 during winter in an insulated but not heated garage. What do you guys recommend, besides starting it for 5min every week, to make sure that nothing happens when spring comes?

Nad, yes, I know I am supposed to drive it in winter and get the best out of Quattro

Thank you for your help.

Default I wouldn't start it for 5 minutes...

as suggested below...take it out once a month, run it on the highway for 20 miles to warm everything up, and put it back under wraps.

If you do that, there really isn't anything special you'll need to do.

Might want to lay some mousetraps around the storage area. Don't want the vermin chewing through your wiring or building nests in your exhaust.

Default It was recommended to me that I start the 996TT and just let it idle every few weeks.

I'm definitely not going to take it out and drive it for 20+ miles on the freeway with all this damn salt on the ground during the winter here.

FWIW, this is what I did last winter and the car didn't show any ill effects....other than a dead battery. ;p

Default The dead batt is one problem with that...

moisture build up in the exhaust stream, never burning off the condensation in the oil if the motor doesn't get up to temp. Idling and engine means it stays colder longer = more wear on the engine.

Driving the P car around in MI in the winter is one thing. But he's in Chicago...you can find clear roads most days of the week, and if you're going to go through the trouble to start it, you may as well move it around a bit.
