Default The Phatbox Lives!!!!

I just needed to let everyone know that my Phatbox is up and running perfectly. However, what I really want to say is thank you to Jonah for his perfect drawing and pinout information.

I brought it into a friend who is a graduate student at the Robotics lab a the University of Washington and we did the work there. The professor and grad students were quite impressed with the meticulous work of Jonah.

Wonderful, simply wonderful!

Umm....hmm...the story goes like this:

I hear from a third party that the Audi and VW Phatboxes are the same. I notice that there's a VW dealership in Pennsylvannia that has the thing for $100 less than the Audi dealership here, so I get that. I get it and find that it's only half true...the unit is the same but the cables aren't the same:

I try to bamboozle an Audi cable from various dealerships and Phatnoise but find that I can't get them to budge. So I end up relying on Jonah's magic:

The End.

Default Thanks! I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you!

I'm curious to know where you sourced the 13 Pin DIN connector.

I got the end from Digikey.com. They have *every* connector imaginable! Including this one:

Default Re: Why doesnt Phatbox support Text display like...

Because the Phatbox integrates with the stock head unit. Scrolling text would require a different head unit.

The voice SSA stuff isn't that bad actually. I purchased AT&T Natural Voices (it was hard to justify, but I'm going to be listening to this voice *a lot*) so it sounds better than the default Windows voice that you normally get.

Is it as good as scrolling text? I don't think so....not in terms of efficiency anyway. I can read a tag much faster than I can wait for a tag to be read to me, but it's still not bad.
