Default Played with a Shelby Ford Cobra today...(Long)

I am almost positive the Cobra was a kit car, because of the young owner with baseball cap on backwards and the dual chrome rollbars.

I was on the approach road to the Golden Gate Bridge from the Marina when I heard the thunder approaching. I kept checking my rear view mirror to determine where the hell the V8 header noises were coming from. Then I saw the flash of red and chrome as the Cobra was darting in and out of morning traffic. I was at the front of the traffic and slowing the approching the next light to ensure I was lined up next to the Cobra. When the Cobra finally pulled next to me he cut me off with a wide open lane at the light. I did not have a chance to change lanes because of traffic approaching behind.

So, I am at the stoplight with the shiny red Shelby Cobra sitting in front of me. The driver was repeatedly reving the engine making the headers roar and the car twitch with each torquing rev. The Chrome was so bright in the morning sunlight I had to squint. I really wanted to see what kind of power the car had and give it a run, but I was behind the guy and couldn't seem to get his attention over the reving of his engine. So, I honked at the guy and he looked in his mirror. I gave him a thumbs up out of my window and pointed to the bridge. He gave me a rev and a thumbs up and the run was on.

The light went green and the Cobra lurched forward and then sunk down on the suspension as the car was flooded from all of the reving. The Cobra rev'd and cleaned out the engine and began to speed off. I was still in 1st, rolling and and stabbed the Silver S4 into action.

To my surprise, I had enough power and torque to chase the Cobra all the way up the bridge approach and actually change lanes and pull up beside the Cobra. The driver looked over at me in shock and let off. As we slowed he yelled "Sweet Car!" I gave him a thumbs up and peeled off the Presidio exit.

Just wanted to share my morning wake up call. And all I can say is, "I love my S4."

Default yeah but can you beat an E46M3? :-P Just kidding...

I smoked about 5 of em but they were sitting at the dealership, with 20k markups -> unsold.

ASked the salesman why they had such a terrible markup.

"because it's the hottest car around"

So then i asked him why he had 5 sitting in the lot (4 blue ones and one silver one)

"uhhhh"

:-P

Default 'Good' Cobras should spank S4s...

Cobra replicas with 427, 428, 429, and 460 engines should all easily beat an S4. These engines, when tuned right, turn out well over 400 hp. Given that Cobra replicas are in the 2600 pound range, these cars are lightening fast, 0-60 in just over four, 1/4 in the 11s.

My guess is this was a cheap replica, lousy driver, or driver who just didn't care. Cool story though, Cobras are fun.

327? Cobras were 289 and 427. The other numbers are engine codes, not displacement or hp.

Default 4xx is more 'authentic' than a 327, but a 327 is still a good engine....

I looked on their site and didn't see complete new cars, just kits. Didn't check the used section though. A 327 is a good engine, its just that 42x and 460 are more common in Cobra replicas.

Default yeah... but sooo much harder to keep on the road :-)

I've got a buddy lookin at buying a Classic Roadster w/ 327. Much more driveable compared to the bigger blocks... especially in such a light car. Can't wait to "borrow" it ;-)
