I need new tires, and I want to get something that performs a lot better than what I have now (Avon M550 A/S). I'm considering the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs which are only ~$20 more per tire than my Avons. I am mainly curious to know if anyone has had any experience/luck running a summer tire in the winter. It's either those or A really high performance all-season.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!

Depending on where you live and how much bad weather you see, you may want to invest in dedicated winters.

Every year with the first snowfall comes a rash of posts from people with banged up cars moaning that they should have bought snow tires instead of running summer tires.
Don't be one of them.

experience nearly everytime you go out. If you can avoid the snow, then it may not be a terrible idea. I didn't have to drive far/often the last 2 winters so I managed fine. With my 80 mile daily commute, I won't risk it.
FWIW...I made a 70+ mile trip during the largest snow storm of the '06-'07 Winter season on F1 GSD3's. Decelerating and climbing hills were extremely difficult.
