2000 S4/ A / don't need cable as long as any USB cable works with it.

Default 2001.5 S4 / T (maybe M) / Don't need cable.
I'm still looking for a used X-Chip in either M or T box at a reasonable price.

I'm currently running an MTM T box.

Default I have an H-box with a GIAC socketed X-chip in there - the X-chip is M-box software..........
I then have my instrument cluster re-coded to accept the M-box.

When I connect with VAG-COM, the computer thinks I have a '551M'.

Default one benefit is USB is non-legacy (can use on new(er) machines (no serial)
but i know that's not really what you were looking for.

USB IS faster than legacy serial, but as to whether ECUx takes advantage of it i have no idea.
