Please tell me its not true. Turbo question
On the way to work this morning the turbos started to sound different. Instead of the pleasant sssssss... the car was making wooooo pitched noise
Oh no i thought. Maybe ill try to build some boost. well that did not make things any better. I finaly know what the dentist drill noise is all about.
Is there a way that this is not a blown turbo? could it be a town hose, or BBV?
please give me some insight. anyone have a used set of ko3's.
thanks.
down and out s4 er.

you're car could go another 20k miles before you need a turbo swap...
I began having that noise last winter. Instead of the nice turbo spool-up, it turned into the high pitched drill noise. I've put on about 10k since then and only recently has it gotten a little worse.
side note - the difference between used k03s compared to new k04s when looking at the total install cost is smaller than most think. First, don't put used turbos in your car...you dont know their history. Second, assume that a dealer will charge ~$3000 for the labor and you can get used k03s for ~$600. A basic k04 install kit from a tuner will be ~$2400.
So, you can have USED k03s put in your car for around $3600 or you can have brand new (and more reliable) k04s in your car for $5400. Spend less than $2000 more and get a more reliable car + lay a foundation for a 4door super car, ie down the road add....giac x, MBC, TCD, mod intake... = one bad *** S4.
thats my plan at least.

If you are still making boost, but have the dentist drill sound, it isn't blown YET.
I've been driving with the dentist drill sound for months, but I haven't gone WOT too ofetn.
Also, FWIW, the dentist drill sound is only heard at WOT under full boost in higher RPMS (4500-redline at WOT in my car).

Jim.. no dealer will ever touch the car. I will install them my self.
If piggie and Simpply can pop turbos in under a day, with no lift. I can do it in 2 weeks dont you think.
