Default If super hot you should turn off or fix, I had one burn through the seat

Dealer ended up having to replace the heating element the cushion and the leather.

Default How bout pictures?

2001 S4. Problem popped up at around 35K miles. Dealer warranteed the repair. After I got it back, it was never quite the same, but I wasn't sure what the issue was, as they were clearly functioning...somewhat. Then I got my hands on the thermal images below. At that point it was clear they were partially functional.

Driver's side is fooked. Passenger side is normal. Parts for driver's side should be about $400 via the internet, plus the cost of pulling the upholstery, peeling back the heating elements and installing new elements. If done at a shop, I would expect a minimum of a $600 repair per seat.

Passenger seat back and bottom (this is how it should work):

Default Very prevalent, cost is addressed, ...

The PITA part is pulling the upholstery, and peeling the heating element off the foam (I believe some have said it's glued on).

It's been discussed more on the A4 forum, but the problem exists in both cars.

Kneeling on the seat can't help matters. The heating elements are probably sensitive to bending. Still, I was very careful not to do that in my A4 and S4...A4 was fine, S4 seat broke. My guess is it's just another crappy electrical part (german cars seem to love using that stuff).
