Default Poll: Who would be interested in a steel single mass lightweight flywheel?

I have been talking with a company that is considering introducing a steel single mass FW if there is a market for it.

Is the lightweight steel from the same people who make the Quiet steel?

Default *edited* No.

The Lightweight Steel Flywheel is intended primarily for street use, but is also an economical racing alternative to the lightweight aluminum flywheel. It retains enough mass for comfortable standing starts in street use, yet it is sufficiently lighter to afford a noticeable improvement in low speed acceleration and to make shifting much smoother. The Aluminum Flywheel is intended primarily for road racing and rallying, originally.

Default I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek there .. But basically, what would be the weight difference...

if the single mass was made of steel as opposed to aluminum? .. I just think heavy when I think of steel and go to from a dual mass to single no matter what should be lighter, but how much performance difference could be gained by using the aluminum already out over the steel? .. Is the steel version just a compromise between the fast revving of the alum. LWFW while elimnating the chattering of it?

Default There are a few reasons to go with steel over aluminum.

Some of the reasons to choose steel rather than aluminum are: cost savings, durability, and drivability. The ultra lightweight aluminum flywheels can actually be too light, and make it difficult to get the car rolling (no inertia!). A one-piece steel unit is much more durable and does not have the problems associated with using a bolt-on steel friction plate most aluminum flywheels use. Finally, steel flywheels are about half the cost of a competitor's aluminum version.

I would be very interested as drivability and price are the only reason I will not buy one

Default There'd be a market for a non-chattering light(er) flywheel.

If it didn't chatter, I'd buy one when my clutch needs replacing.
