Not as comfortable as you'd think. I've had this discussion with a few people, a lot of which could never bring themselves to buy an automatic car. For a manual to be strong enough for 450 hp on a twin turbo v8, it'd have to be very heavy duty, which would make it harsh, and very heavy, like a dumptruck. The "O1L" tiptronic trans that's on the current V8 Audi's is heavy duty, and is joked at for being heavy duty enough to be used on a dumptruck! Have you ridden in one? pretty smooth, huh? Besides, once you get used to it, it's great! Remember the first time you drove stick?

A tiptronic is an automatic any way you shake a stick at it. You're merely operating the vehicle -- a far cry from actually driving.
I'd never consider buying the next-gen S4 (or RS6, TT, etc.) if it only came in an automatic. It'd be a complete waste.
An RS6 sedan w/ 6-speed, on the other hand, would be quite a blast.

Yes I would. Only because a disability resulting from a stroke leaves me unable to drive a stick.

current S4 tip is that it can handle a limited amount of tourque, and thereby limmits the tunability of the car. What I don't understand is, why they are not using the new 6 speed tip that was announced last year, on the RS6. It is lighter, can handle Gobs of torque, and is more efficient. <scratching head>
