Is it possible that the accessory belt on our car is made in the USA? I know it seems like a....
dumb question but, my dad came over today with his A6 2.7T so I could change his oil and look into the cause of losing his washer fluid.
Anyway, he has ~75,000 miles on his car and I recently urged him to do the timing belt, water pump, and other associated stuff....
After changing the oil, and he starts it up to look for leaks - I hear the "marble in the coffee can sound" - same as before he had his water pump replaced.
I then notice that his accessory belt has a big "MADE IN THE USA" printed on it - the guy who did his timing belt, etc. says he used all OEM parts...! Now, I know he might have just substituted a cheap belt which may or not be a big deal, but my concern is that the water pump is making the SAME noise it was making before the repair!
I think he was screwed....so again, is it even possible that Audi would source a belt to us - no way right?
I'm not sure the guy even changed the water pump.
Oh, and the reason I was changing his oil to begin with is that the guy changed it during the "service" and put in non-synthetic 10W-30 (we live in Chicago - it's 0 F outside) - "it's a special turbo oil he said" - oh my, this guy seems like someone to avoid!
He should have listened to me and gone to someone rec. here on Audiworld rather than someone near his office. Those parents will never learn!

thanks for the reply - I'm certain the guy used non-OEM parts....
he was charged for OEM parts...I told him not to go to this guy!
Again, I appreciate the reply.

Yep, that was my concern. When he initially told me about....
about the sound and had a low coolant level, I told him he had a bad water pump. That's when i suggested he do the whole deal at once (since he does had 75,000miles on the car)....
I seriously think this guy may have pulled the bumper, replaced a belt with a cheap PepBoys special and charged him for the whole deal....
He's going to have to get it looked at Monday.
Thanks again.

good to know, I'm hoping for my dad's sake that the guy actually used OEM parts....
as he said he did and my dad was charged for them. Again, the biggest concern is that the water pump which supposedly was replaced 2 days ago sounds exactly like it did before it was fixed - maybe there is something else wrong with his car, who knows.
Thanks for the info.
