A little slip won't do much but if you really rev it and there's slipping going on you'll definitely smell it. Mine was starting to go at around 48k miles and so I decided to completely toast it so I could get warranty coverage. There was enough smoke coming out from underneath the car that it looked like a blown turbo. Smelled like ***. Took several days for it to air out. Felt like a teenage all over

if your pressure plate is not providing adequate clamping force you will not smell it, burning clutch smell typically happens when you over power a properly working clutch, either by driver error or simply too much power. You need heat derived from friction to burn the lining. of course oil contamination on the lining will lubricate the friction surface and also have little or no smell.

would be nice to get a few guys together and get lunch or something. I know Anthony said he's busy, but he'd "see what [he] can do"
