Pothole & a cut in the tire?

Can a pothole make a cut on the tire, just found one on my right front tire, thought someone using a knife did that.

yes... tire pinches against rim and splits open. did your rim bend, too. if so...

it's likely out of true, as well.

Happened to me. Blew the tire and bent the rim.
