Default Power Steering Fluid Question:

Noticed some fluid on my garage floor near the driver's side front wheel.

Checked fluids and found that my Power Steering fluid is below the "min" mark. Everything else (coolant, washer fluid) seems ok.

Before I bring it to the dealer, can i top it off w/ PS fluid from PepBoys/Kragen or do i need some special Audi stuff?

TIA

Default Mine was low this week also. Called the dealer, and he said that in very cold weather........

the piece of crap crimp clamps they use have a tendency to loosen-up and leak a little. Luckily, there is a VW dealer right down the street from where I work. Picked up a liter of the "special" fluid that both VW and Audi use. Not exactly cheap, at $21.00 per liter.

Default Um, you should not have to pay for it.. I got my litre for free. My car eats it and I live in NorCal

a very warm climate. So your dealer is misinformed about the cold.. Gone through over a litre in the 20k I have had the car. It doesn't eat oil, go figure..

ok. Q2: just below the "min" line shouldn't be too bad for a couple of days, no?

Default I had to pay..

Most dealers won't just give you a liter for free... if you want them to give you fluid they'll have to "look at it" which usually means make an appointment... at my nearest dealer that takes a month so I can pay or drive with it low for a month :-P

Default The dealer was 15+ miles away, I was at lunch, and the VW dealer was a few hundred yards...........

down the road. The pump was making ugly noises, so the $20 was more than worth it.

Default Should be ok. just don't crank the wheel all the way to the left/right. If you get groaning, then

you need to fill it, or back off from steering to far.
