Update from my tech...I took the car back in to see what he thought...he said he traced it down to being the alternator and said that he blew it out with compressed air and it seemed to improve the problem temporarily so he pulled measured the voltage and it check out fine then ran some sort of load test and he said it indicated that one of the 'diodes' was weak and when the load was put on he noticed the noise increased slightly.

Few questions:
a) if its making a noise would you go ahead an replace it or is there a way to replace just the pulley? Just not sure what would be making the noise.
b) Also I am showing no signs of a bad alternator, voltage is good the tech confirmed it...would you just wait till there are some sort of signs? Although I guess sound might be a sign..not sure what to think about the load test my tech performed, never really heard of that...

Thoughts? Also if it is the alternator do you think that I should replace with a remanufactured alternator. Damn this is getting expensive!

Thanks,

Justin

theyre typically not terribly expensive compared to the labor to replace one. if its already out and was causing problems i would be tempted to replace it unless money is tight. i dont know what they would charge though, i usually do my own work

Agreed...I typically do my own work also but was about to leave for vacation when all this work happened and since I paid the mechanic I figured I'd let him finish up the work. Basically he said he'd replace it for free (just parts) so that works too

Thanks to everyone for the help, hopefully a new alternator will fix the problems!
