Two sitting in BMW found shot, critically injured in LR; man held

A Thursday morning shooting in southwest Little Rock left a man and woman in critical condition, with one of the victims on life support at an area hospital, police said.
A Chicago native was later arrested on two counts of attempted capital murder in the shootings.
About 5:30 a.m., police were called to the 10500 block of Topaz Court, where they found a black 2000 BMW parked with a man and woman slumped over in the front seat. The victims were identified as James Graham Dobbins, 23, of Bayfield, Colo., and Kari Ann Evans, 21, of Frisco, Texas.
"The female was behind the steering wheel and she had been shot once in the back of the head," said Little Rock police spokesman Sgt. Terry Hastings.
"The male was shot twice in the back."
Evans was taken to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Thursday night, police said. Dobbins was taken to Baptist Medical Center, where he too was listed in critical condition.
Police said Dobbins was not expected to live.
It wasn't clear whether the two lived in Little Rock or were simply visiting.
Shortly after noon Thursday, Little Rock police arrested Sheldrick Jerome Herrod, 27, at Oak Ridge Apartments, 6201 Mabelvale Cutoff, which is about two blocks from the scene of the shooting.
Herrod was taken to Little Rock police headquarters, where he was charged with the felony counts. He was being held without bond Thursday night in the Pulaski County jail.
The city has recorded 11 homicides this year, with three of those occurring in southwest Little Rock.
"Drugs are a factor in the majority of the murders that we've had this year, either as the direct reason or the underlying situation of the suspects or victims in each case," Hastings said.
