Default Problems with 22mm sway bar!

My setup: MTM springs and shocks (Eibach and Koni) and a 22mm Neuspeed sway bar.

My situation: When I turn up a steep driveway (i.e. one side fully compressed, the other fully uncompressed)there is a knock in the rear suspension. When someone was looking at the car from the curb they verified that my rear wheel (uncompressed) was off the ground! I realize that this may be the ultimate suspension while on the track, but I'm not sure I need this in everyday driving!

My questions: If I back off to a 19mm bar, will I elimanate this knock? Is the 19mm THAT much better than the 17mm stock?

Thanks in advance!

Default it doesn't sound like there is a problem with the bar!!!

In fact if there is ANY problem at all, the mounting hardware on the top of your strut may be loose, that's why you get a knocking sound when that side if fully uncompressed. Ihave the factory sway bar, and had the same problem when I installed my coilovers.
THE PRODUCT IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO!!

Default The stock bar is 16mm

It is normal for, under certain circumstances, for a wheel to leave the pavement when you have aftermarket suspension and sway bars. When I jack up my S4 now...I can use only the front jack point...and the whole car lifts up. It is normal to do this...the body is flexing less due to the addition of the stiffer sway bars.

The knock? I don't know what that is...maybe the spring is moving in the spring perch?

Default Re: The stock bar is 16mm

I have had THREE different mechanics underneath and all say that things look like their installed correctly. I wish it were something like the spring moving in the spring perch, but I hope they would have noticed that.

Default Check the following....

Subframe mount...is it cracked or broken?
Uplink arm (plastic)...it is broken?
Sway bar ...it is still intact on the four mounting points?
Check the back brakes...are the pads intact?

If the car is on a hydraulic lift..you should be
able to see something.

Default Even the 19 mm bar will lift the rear when jacking up the front.

If you are knocking then you should be able to see where it is hitting. Look for evidence of rubbing or chafing. The rear drop link does come close to the lower rear control arm with the sway bar on the soft seting. The reinforcing bracket is hard to tighten properly, it could be slipping up or down slightly when in a tight bind like that. Keep looking, changing the bar isn't the solution.
David

Default I bet it's the spring moving around on the perch. Everything sounds normal.

Default you forgot something

grab the wheel, and move it up and down with force to see where the noise is coming from. I did the same after my install, and realized the mounting hardware on top of the strut was loose. (YOU CANNOT SEE THIS ON A LIFT). It is inside the black channel. Here is your advantage of having the lift.. grab the wheel and move it up and down.
