There definitely is a difference between the Euro and US. The Euro's throw out a brighter beam somehow. Only the housings are different, I transferred all the electronics.<ul><li><a href="http://people.mn.mediaone.net/alandejesus/hid_inspect.htm">Pretty funny.</a></li></ul>

..I think that not just the housing is different. I'm pretty sure the glass projector for the HID bulb has little ripples in the US headlight and is totally smooth and clear in the Euro headlight. The ripples act as a light diffuser I believe.
