The previous owner of my S4 was very meticulous about keeping everything working on the car, but he never NEVER had the fuel filter changed in 130K miles.
I changed it today, and the car is MARKEDLY faster and smoother... I always recommend people change their fuel filter every 20K miles, especially on a modded car.
That is all...

It's a $20 part and takes under an hour to change. You can *LOG* a difference in timing correction before and after changing after 20K miles...
On a returnless fuel system car, if you don't change it often, your fuel pump will most likely not last more than 45-50K miles... Go ask the B6 A4/S4 forums...

I put 90k on my OE filter on my sedan, no issues whatsoever. Jason had some rediculous amount of mileage (160k?) on his before changing it. I've logged pretty regularly since I got Vagcom in 2002 and noticed nothin'.
Audi rates it as a lifetime part. I'd say it's easily good for 75k or so. I'll be putting a new one in my Avant (on the shelf) with an 044 (to the left of it on the shelf) soon at 49k with full knowledge that it really doesn't need either.
