Default Purchasing S4, need advice

I know this is probably the millionth time you have seen this thread, but I need some advice...

I am interested in purchasing a 2001 6spd S4 from an individual. Car has 78xxx miles on it. Comes with "newer tires," stock + extra OZ rims/tires, 2 ecus (one stock one performace) and looks to be in pretty nice condition. The clutch was replaced 4 years ago when the car was under warranty. He also said there is a humming sound that is coming from under the car when you drive it (I am guessing wheel bearing from what I have read). That is pretty much the information I was given by the man selling the car.

His asking price is $9600, I was able to make a deal with him for $7500. I am hesitant right now though, because I know this car needs some maintenance. I know it needs a timing belt service, and the wheel bearing(s). I am know turning it over to you guys. What else would a car of this age need to be @ 100%. How much do you think I would initially be putting into it? And lastly, how good is the deal that I would be getting as I described this to you? Thanks for your input.

sorry, forgot to mention one thing I think is kind of important. The current owner is the second owner since 2002.

Default At a min, if you are not a DIY'er set aside at least 3-4k

Take this thing to a GOOD indy shop you trust and have them give it the one over. At this mileage I did full TB, waterpump, etc. Also had to valve cover gaskets, cam seals, TREs, control arms, etc.... you get the point... the "common" things at this mileage will pop up and be expensive you are not the DIY type. Also make sure the wheel bearings have been replaced, this car seems to eat wheel bearings for breakfast.

When the car starts making a loud humming noise from the wheel well it's most likely it is wheel bearing time.

Since it comes with a "performance" ECU I assume it's been chipped? Do you know what software? Regardless, be prepared to replace the K03s
