My brother delivered my new 2001 S4 to me from out-of-state with about 1200 miles (around 200 city miles and 1000 highway miles, varying speed/rpm). My question is should I now consider the car "broken-in" or should I go through additionl "break-in"? If so, what would you recommend?
Thanks,

relevant.
You have various types of metal in your engine, from cast iron, to aluminum (in various alloys). Break in is not solely a factor of friction. It is also the mating of parts in various states of "thermal variance" Since different metals have different rates of thermal expansion; Heat cycling your engine/drivetrain several times is also very wise.
If the car 1000 miles on the highway, and that was done in the trip to deliver it to you; I would take a week, and put a few more "cycles" into everything.
IMHO
