Default question on 2000 vs. 2001 torque numbers

Just noticed something interesting the other day. I was checking my 2000 manual and it specified the torque output being 258 ft/lbs from 1850-4500 RPM's. However the Audi specs for 2001 and later models have torque being 258 at 1850 to 3600 RPM's. I was not aware that there was a difference. I figure this is known by most people, but wouldn't this affect the performance numbers slightly from 2000 and 2001 models ??
