Default Question about APRs turbos

What is the truth behind the rumor I'm hearing on these turbos? Are they K03s with K04 impellers or are they really K04 MS?

Are you sure you mean APR? Sounds like Hoppen to me.

Default This was the rumor with AMS turbos...

...and the AMS turbos are K04 innards squeezed into a K03 sized housing for fitment.

Default ABT K04's (m)

I believe that these are specially made K04 turbos with/a smaller housing but different innards. I think the benifit is quicker spool up but if you do a search I am sure you could find more.

Quicker spoolup, much less top end. K04 MS are the better bang for the $$..

How would you compare your K04's to the garrets? How much hp did the K04's add? I am seriously considering a turbo replacement and was wondering if i should wait for the APR garret conversion- your thoughts?

Default The garetts should spool up faster...as for performance differences

I think that the capability of both turbos will exceed that of the stock engine, without headwork. Meaning, I think you can see 450hp easily out of either turbos. The Garrett will spool up faster due to the ball bearing design and will generate less heat. I'm not sure what all is involved with the Garrett turbos nor have we seen any performance numbers so I won't speculate. Right now there isn't a totally finished K04 car either. Theres a lot more to it than just upgrading the turbos
