Question about chips and sockets...

There is a GIAC chip on ebay that I am interested in. It is only the chip though. I am assuming I would still need to have the encryption board w/socket soldered to my ECU to make it work. Any idea on cost to do this? Also, can I swap this chip with the APR chip I have now? Will the Giac chip plug and play using the encryption board and socket used by APR? Any ideas? TIA.

I don't think it would be anymore than that...I was trying to figure this out myself because before I found a stock ECU I was thinking about selling my chip separately...thank god I don't have to. I'd call AWE or any GIAC authorized reseller and find out how much they'd charge.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Well, thing is my ecu currently already has a socket in place for the APR chip that is in it. Can I just pop that APR chip out and plug in the GIAC chip, using the same socket? Will that cause any problems?

What makes me think the sockets are compatible is that when I got my APR chip, they gaveme back my stock chip. I assume so I can plug it into the aftermarket socket to replicate a stock ECU. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

Then you will have to pay to have a giac socket installed. IMO You are better off selling your whole apr ecu and picking up a used giac socketed ecu.
