Default Question about going to the track........

June 6th is going to be my first time going to the track. I'm pretty low on my tires and was planning to kill them at the track before having all 4 replaced. Can someone tell me if track events are strict with tire tread requirements? I don't know if my tires will qualify and have no clue how to find out but sure wouldn't want to be rejected at the track due to non-qualifying tires. TIA

Default You will *probably* have to have a local shop do a pre-tech inspection

Ask them what they think about it.

the shops that I use are shops that race too, so they have a clue as to what your tech inspection is going to look for.

But, I think the same is true for track as it is on the street....Do you know about the penny test?

Default If you can pass your pre-track tech inspection, they won't re-inspect them at the track.

Or, just haul the old ones with you and swap them in the paddock area after getting tech'd.

Default

I've always had the required "pre-track" inspection at local shop, and re-teched at the track.

Default Just how low is low, and which track?

Some tracks will eat tires, if you start low you might not make it to the end.

Remember if you blow a tire you are endangering not only yourself, but your instructor and the other people on the track with you.

This is not to say that you can't run worn tires, but you had best keep a close eye on them. And if its a multi day event you woul definitely want to plan on a front/back or side/side swap between days.

Default It's going to be at Willow Springs. Tires are not bold or anything, but not enough to make it ....

pass summer with normal day to day driving even without a track event.
