Default question about hit and run accident(for a friend).

My friends wife was going out to car after her work shift was up and she found some minor damage and a scrape on the rear bumper..

I assume since there is no other person to blame that they should NOT report this to the insurance company and just pay out of pocket unless the damage is more than their $500 deductable?

Default the deductable is cheaper, but you would put a claim in on your ins.

that is bad.

Default Do this!!!

Tell her to file a police report and then contact the insurance company, since this is a hit a run, AND you filed a police report she would NOT have to pay a penny!!! This happened to me 3 TIMES, i didnt file a police report had to pay the deductable, my S was keyed at school filed a report with the police then told my insurance, didnt pay anything!!! I have StateFarm by btw. Hopefully everything will workout! Good Luck!

Default I think no-fault insurance prevents your rates from going up unless

you are at fault... I think it varies state to state though. By filing a report, you are showing that you are not at fault.

Default Not true in NJ. They can screw you for any claim. They're doing it to me.

My S4 had been stolen and now vandalized, neither of which was in any way my fault of course, but if I make the second claim my rates will go up 50%. Since I pay about $2400 per year, that's $1200 more per year. Jersey is a hole.
