Default question about twin turbos...

hi... i heard that on the first gen s4 it was recommended that u keep ur car in park and keep the car on at the end of ur drive for about 5 minutes to let the engine cool down, since the car has twin turbos. i find this hard to believe, but is it true?

Default After a hard run or spirited driving, you should let it sit for a good minute....

Otherwise, with time the turbos will weaken. Just use a Turbo Timer.

Default Another good method is to start driving gently a few minutes out from your destination.

Then let it run for 2 or 3 before shut down.

Default You need to warm up the oil prior to getting on the throttle hard. Most people wait

until the oil temperature needle moves off it's leftmost resting position.

At the end of any spirited driving, recommendations vary. Some say to get a turbo timer and forget about it. Others say to sit there with the car running for a few minutes. Still others (I'm in this group) suggest simply driving gently for the last few minutes before parking. In any of the three methods, the oil has a chance to cool down slightly, as shutting off the car and leaving very hot oil in the turbos is bad for them (for reasons I don't quite understand). Driving gently is pretty easy, as I'm usually driving through a parking lot or on city streets prior to getting out of the car.

I wait until the oil temp is at 200, but that is probably overkill.

Not just on the first gen. - these cars are great but high maintenance.
