Default Question about UUC Shifter and play when in gear

I got the Audi dealer to install a UUC shifter on my S4. Although the shifter works fine and the throw is very reduced (I opted for the 40%), I find that when in gear, there is a lot of play in the shifter. I can move the shifter a couple of inches when in any gear. It doesn't seem "tight" (like the Hurst shifter in my Mustang). Is this normal? (I hope I'm explaining this properly....)

Thx!
Alex

Default You poor soul. I went through the same thing.

Not the sloppy UUC, but the "crapy feel". Like you I have a hurst in my camaro (T56), and it is as solid as a rock (talk about manhandling a piece of equipment). When I got my UUC in, my first impressions were good because the improvment over stock was great. Now it seems like the same old sloppy shifter. Needless to say I have some play in my UUC, but not a couple inches. Maybe one max. What I would look to do, is see if the connection on the shifter itself it tight (at the bottom when it makes the 90degree bend). You might need a locking washer to install.

A good metaphor that might help: The two screws that hold the shifter on your mustang.... if they were loose, you'd have a lot of play, correct? Imagine tightening up your UUC the same way you would on your Hurst. Hope that helps.

Default Re: Question about UUC Shifter and play when in gear

If you have the latest model S4 you will need to measure the square socket on the short shifter that fits into the standard shifter pivot ball location pocket. The square on the short shifter will need to be about .669" (17mm). If it is .630"
(16mm) which is for the older shifter assembly then you have found your problem, to much play in
the short shifter to pivot ball location point.
