Default Question on Spacers?

I searched a bit but didn't find the exact answers to all my questions...

- Are there downsides to Spacers? (Namely Adverse Suspension wear, increased stress, bad tire wear?)

- With Stock Suspension what is the best size to get for the cleanest look and fitment of a 235/45 tire to avoid rubbing. 5mm or 10mm?

- I just had an alignment, will I need another after adding the spacers? Guessing it could throw my toe out a bit...

I plan on adding suspension next but will probably keep stock wheels until I can save up enough cash to buy some 18's which may be a while (XMas and all)

Anyways thanks in advance for the help!

I think a 235/45 is to large. Try a 235/40.

Default Yea this is what I have read but...

I figure several things...if I'm sticking with the Stock Avus for a while I like the look of them much better when the wheels at least sit flush with the edge of the car and if I can fit more rubber with the spacers than I'll go for it...

Now if there are issues that could arise from running spacers than i'd rather not....

I also want to keep in mind that I plan on upgrading suspension in the not so distant future (coilovers) where I'd want to lower the car a bit....So I need to make sure spacers won't cause issues when I upgrade.

Thanks for the input!

Default May need 3mm spacer on rear for 235/45/17 tire..more

Tire MAY hit suspension upright on inside of rear wheel with that size tire. With this thin spacer you will not have alignment or any other problem. When tire is worn a bit you can remove spacer if you like.
I had rubbing with PZERO NERO Pirellis...3mm spacer for 20,000 miles, now have removed spacer.

Default Good to know...thx

What point do you need to start worrying about these things past 5mm or maybe 8mm...if at all?

Default On stock suspension you do not need a spacer to run 235's.

That is 235/45/17. It works fine.

Default But I do know that ....

several people have said that certain tires rub pretty bad with stock suspension. for example Goodyear F1's run a tad wide so I've heard they will rub.

This is what I'm concerned about...and since I do plan on lowering the car in the near future I'm worried about that.

Default lol... Tomasz is a tire god!

you WILL need spacers in the rear! this is very tire-model specific, but i can tell you from experience that 235/45 won't jive with your car w\out a spacer in the rear.
