Default question for those with accident experience

if your car is hit and it's the other guys fault, do you still pay your insurance deductible or is it covered by that guy's insurance?

thanks

They pay for everything. It's not your fault so why should you have to pay the deductible..

Default The other guy (or girl in my case)...you could file a claim with your company if the other party's

company sucks. You would then have to pay the deductable, but then your company would go after the other company for the damages and refund you your deductable in the end. The only problem with this is that it shows up as a claim on your record, which could raise your rates.

Default So I should just submit the estimate to the Postal office? Hit by a postal truck, they are

self-insured. Would prefer not to get my ins. company involved

Default Depends...

If you file with their insurance company, you'll have nothing out of pocket.

If you file with your insurance company, you'll pay the deductible, and you'll get it back when/if your insurance gets the money back from the other party's insurance co.

Ex: I got rear-ended last July. Clearly not my fault, however there was a disagreement between the person and fault, and her insurance company as to whether her policy was valid at the time of the accident. I HAD to file with my insurance co., and they are waiting for her lawyers, the insurance company, and the PA State Insurance Comm. to come to a determination as to whether her insurance was or wasn't valid. Until such time, I'm out $500. If my insurance never recovers the money, this will fall under the "underinsured" portion of my policy, and I'll never see that deductible.

Default Yes, I think you're ok with that. Only get your company involved if you need to . I don't know

what company you have, but when I had my accident, I called my company and kept them abreast of things as they were happening. I didn't file a claim with them, but I did give them all the info so that, in case things went sour with the other driver's company, they would have all the info and could go to bat for me. Fortunately, it all worked out. I don't think you have to worry with the Post Office.

Default actually, your insurance will pay and you will pay deductable, until your insurance

collects money from the other guys insurance...Sometimes this process is really quick...so there may be a chance you don't have to pay your deductable(which is payed after the car is done)

Default NO! Only do that if you can't work it out with the other party's ins. company. You DO NOT want to

file a claim if you don't need to.
