Questions about upgrading to K04 turbos

I've got a completely stock 2000 S4 with just over 93k miles still with orginial turbos. I want to go through the stages as I get the cash, but if the turbos fail, since I plan on upgrading them to begin with, I don't want to put in another set of K03's.. I want to upgrade to K04's, but I also want to do it safely. So basically the question is, is it possible to run K04's on a stock S4? or what's the bare minimum I can get away with? Since the larger turbos pull more air will I have to upgrade software or fuel injectors? Also whats the cost difference between installing K03's and K04's?

Hi Blite
As far as I know you can run K04s with stock programming as the ECU will not be increasing the boost etc and will treat them as K03s. You will need some additional piping etc with the K04s though, not sure if you are aware of that.

You can run k04s on stock programming.
You will need to at least buy a set of inlet pipes along with k04s since k04s use different diameter pipes (larger).
It is highly advisable to replace a clutch (to stage 3 or at least Rs4 one) while in there and do something about downpipes as well while in there.
Replacing clutch requires either pulling the engine or transmission out and while having the engine out for turbo swap it would make sense to do the clutch while at it.
Downpipes can be replaced while engine is in the car but it is hard and laborious.... again do it while the engine is out!
