Modified versions of 'normal' sedans have been around for a LONG, LONG time. How about the Hemi Barricuda? Or the Pontiac GTO?
Nothing is new with the current trend of cars.

I just have to laugh when people criticize some things on the WRX or Evo. They were designed with a specific purpose in mind and it wasn't luxury.
The 2005 Legacy looks great on the exterior IMO and is going to have several awesome engine options. One will use a twin scroll turbo with a titanium turbine wheel. Drooool. That being said, who knows what the interior will look like. I'm sure the Germans will still have a leg up.
