So I had my radio replaced in my 2000 A62.7t under warranty. The car has the Bose setup in it. When I got the car back the sound was very different. There was a lot more Bass etc and not as much treble as before(for the same tone adjustments). I thought this was kind of odd. Then I noticed that the head unit no longer said BOSE on it when it turns on.

So the question is I wonder if these units are coded to be "bose" units in which case they have a different equalization and display BOSE on the front plate when turning on. And secondly does this mean you can re-code it yourself with VAG-COM to be either a BOSE unit or a stock unit (each appear to have different sounds) The dealer was going to look into this for me so if I learn any thing I will pass it on.

Yes to recoding req'd, but I think VagCom still doesn't talk to Symphony radios reliably.

I will try to get the coding so that you all can play with this (The sound is very different with the head unit coded as stock and not Bose.) There is a lot more bass (almost too much) It is not the highest quality in the world but it seems as if the door speakers are doing more work than before which might make sense as the A6 has a sub w/ Bose.

wouldn't it be 00007 for non-Bose and 00017 for Bose?
