I Want RS6 Turbos!

Weather conditions for tonight's runs (#2 and #3 below):

Run #1 : 6/16/07: red : -15% primary, -3 deg of timing, ~25psi spike tapering to ~21.5-22 at redline, 03rr race gas program ("Ari File"), ~105oct*
Run #2 : 8/10/07: pink : zero primary, +0.75 deg of timing, ~26psi spike tapering to ~22 at redline, ETGP race gas program ("Brent File"), Sunoco 116oct
Run #3 : 8/10/07: dark blue : +6.6% primary, +14.3 deg of timing, ~26psi spike tapering to ~22 at redline, OTS pump gas program, Sunoco 116oct

Other changes in between Run #1 (6/16/07) and the two runs tonight (8/9/07) include:

1) Differing weather conditions (see IAT graph).
2) Roughly 20-30lbs more weight reduction.
3) New spark plugs gapped down a hair.
4) No FFC (French Fry Cutter) in the MAF.
5) Different length and size cold air intake with a newer, bigger, and cleaner AEM Dryflow
cone filter (vs old, small, and somewhat dirty ITG cone filter).

*Back in June, the car was actually slower on C16 than it was on 105 octane when tweaked for both. I need to try ~105 octane with my current setup and see if I can get a new best time.

The "other RPM Range" in all of these graphs is 4800-7200 RPMs. See #9 below for more info.

Lessons learned:

1) The OTS pump gas program seems to be able to run more peak timing with a lower CF, although the slightly higher peak timing does not seem to make the car any faster.

2) The OTS pump gas program and ***** out Euro Tuner Race File (aka the "Brent" file) both seem to offer similar performance on C16; the pump program just requires some "tweaks."

3) Despite 5-6 runs with the Euro Tuner file and various changes in each direction (+/- timing and +/- primary), the car was fastest with NO real changes (0% primary, +0.75 timing). This tells me that the ETGP race file really is "off the shelf", at least for my car. Props to Moss, Todd@AWE, Mike and Kurt @ Vast, and Garrett @ GIAC for nailing this file.

4) The car is fastest with an AFR of 11.5 to 12.0. Leaning it out to 12.5 to 13.0 raises CFs, lowers overall timing, and makes the car slower.

5) At this rate of acceleration (low 2.3 FATS), I can definitely <i>feel</i> the timing oscillate.
With pump gas and FATS times in the 2.4 to 2.5 range, it's far less noticeable from the seat of the pants.

6) THE TIMING CURVE MUST BE FIXED! If I can actually feel it (and boy can you ever), then it must be worth at least a tenth.

7) Wastegate nuts may need to be tightened to hold more boost to redline as I'm spiking to 26psi, but only holding 22 or so to redline. Just how tight should I make them? If I tighten them all the way, will I spike to 30+ in the low RPMs and create an uncontrollable spike in the AFR?

8) For the tweaking and A-B, A-B runs, I look more at the RPM range of 4800-7200 RPMs than I do of the FATS' 4200-6500. Why? Because during a WOT run from a dead stop, 1st gear roll, or 2nd gear roll, I am always at around 4800rpms after shifting 2nd to 3rd. So 4800-7200 is a more accurate and useful performance benchmark IMO.

9) All I ever play with are the timing and primary fuel channels. I'll be the first to admit that I know little to nothing about the other channels, but I am eager to learn about them in hopes of being able to use them to my advantage.

Looking at my logs, if anybody has any suggestions on what I can try next (whether it be a Lemmiwinks tweak or hardware change), I'm all ears!
